3PL Company Services in Cincinnati
Request a QuoteRay Hamilton has been in the business of protecting other people's goods since 1892, when a single horse-drawn cart and a small warehouse were the whole operation. A lot has changed in 13 decades. What hasn't is the simple idea at the center of it: we manage assets, handle valuable customer products, and we fulfill customer expectations. That's the honest one-line answer to what a 3PL company does, and it's the frame we work from every day.
Brian Evans runs our 3PL line, and he spent 25-plus years protecting financial assets before he came to protect physical ones. As he puts it, different assets, but it's all about process and controls. If you're comparing 3PL logistics companies right now, that's the difference we'd point you to first. We treat your inventory like it matters, because to your business it does. We are in the asset management business!

What a 3PL Company Actually Does
A third-party logistics company (3PL) takes over the physical side of your supply chain so you don't have to build and staff a warehouse yourself. In plain terms, we receive your product, check it in, store it, and ship it back out as orders come in. That's the receive-store-fulfill throughline, and every service below hangs off it.
Notice what we didn't lead with: software. Plenty of 3PL companies open the conversation with a platform pitch, dashboards, RFID, the works. Our tracking is real and accurate, but it isn't the point. The point is that your goods move correctly, arrive intact, and get answered for quickly. We foreground the operation and the people, not a login screen.
Our Core 3PL Services
Order Fulfillment (Picking, Packing, Kitting)
This is the heart of it, and it's B2B-first. We pick, pack, and kit at three levels: full pallet, carton (case), and "each." Each is a single unit, which might be a small machine part or a heavy standalone item. A common day looks like 50 boxes arriving on one pallet, then placing them across several outbound orders, 10 boxes to one destination and 12 to another, packed and staged for pickup.
Our own logistics people coordinate the outbound shipping so it moves the way it should. We don't chase direct-to-consumer work, but if a B2C inquiry lands with us, we'll help rather than turn you away. If we cannot help you, we are more than pleased to help connect you with a nearby trusted provider.

Warehousing and Inventory Handling
We specialize in handling high-end products and are also equipped to care for both standard and non-standard-size pallet inventory. We take care of safely unloading the truck, checking the products into our Inventory Management System against your own tracking convention, whether you count by box, pallet, lot, or expiration date, and ensuring proper storage. When you are ready to have your inventory sent to its next destination, we ensure it is prepared for delivery according to your needs.
More on our 3PL warehousing services.

Cross-Docking and Transloading
Cross-docking means the freight barely touches the floor. An example is a customer who manufactures custom equipment and ships a full truckload to us. We re-sort the load by customer destination and ship the inventory out without it ever going into long-term storage. Transloading is different. That's pure freight-transfer labor with no routing brainpower, like when a client's truck has a mechanical problem and we unload the trailer and reload onto another one, restacking shifted pallets when needed.

How Your Product Moves Through Our Warehouse
The dock-to-fulfillment path is short and deliberate:
Truck arrives and we unload.
Our full-time crew handles the freight, not a rotating cast of day labor.
Check-in against your convention.
We record it the way you already track it, so your numbers and ours match from the start.
Store and slot.
Fast-movers go where they can be picked quickly.
Fulfill out.
Orders get picked, packed, and staged at pallet, carton, or each level, with shipping coordinated on the way out.
How We Protect Your Inventory as an Asset
Two things most 3PL companies get wrong are packaging quality and responsiveness. We work hard on the first with packaging materials that make sense to protect your products aimed at stopping product from shifting in transit and showing up damaged. That's the difference between a clean delivery and a claim.
Accuracy is managed through a risk-based cycle-count program. We count fast-moving and high-value items often and slow-movers less frequently, which is how you catch a problem before it becomes a shortage. You also get a seat into our inventory system for a live virtual view of your stock. There are no cameras or live look-ins, but you're welcome to visit in person with a little notice. It's real visibility without us pretending to be a software vendor.
Why Companies Choose Ray Hamilton
Our calling card is that we're small enough to be flexible, which means custom solutions instead of a rigid intake form. But we're not new. The company was founded in 1892 and started in warehousing, so protecting stored goods isn't a side hustle we added last year. Behind the current line sits 25-plus years of process and controls discipline.
Then there's the thing clients bring up unprompted: we call back. We hear the same story over and over from businesses leaving other providers. "I couldn't get those guys to return my email for weeks." Then, after switching: "I can't believe you called me back within 10 minutes." Among 3PL companies, that's a real, provable differentiator, not a slogan. Brian is the direct point of contact, and he answers the same day.
What Good 3PL Pricing Looks Like
We won't publish a number, because an honest quote depends on your product and your volume. What we can tell you is how the math works. We keep a standard pricing sheet as a starting point, and it's negotiable from there. Two levers move the per-pallet rate down: higher volume and a longer commitment. Moving 100 pallets prices better per pallet than a 10-item pickup.
Velocity matters too. Inventory that turns earns its keep on both the storage side and the handling side, which is a healthier arrangement for everyone than a static rack that never moves. We compete on value and doing it right.
Who We Work Best With
Our sweet spot is B2B order fulfillment and case picking with customers looking to establish a genuine long-term partnership.
There's also a real crossover with our commercial relocation side. When an office move leaves furniture or files that need to sit for a few weeks before going back out, or product a client wants held for reuse on a future job, we store it for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a 3PL company do?
A 3PL company handles the physical logistics of your supply chain: receiving your inventory, storing it, and fulfilling orders as they come in. In our case that also includes cross-docking, transloading, and coordinating the outbound shipping, so you get warehouse capacity and fulfillment labor without building your own operation.
What is an example of a 3PL company?
Ray Hamilton is a working example: a warehousing and fulfillment operation founded in 1892 that receives client freight, checks it in against each client's own tracking convention, stores it, and ships orders out at pallet, carton, and each level. One real project has us taking full truckloads in and re-sorting them onto separate outbound trucks by destination.
What's the difference between cross-docking and transloading?
Cross-docking is sorting: freight comes in, gets re-sorted by destination, and ships back out without going into long-term storage. Transloading is transfer labor with no routing decisions, like moving a load from a broken-down truck onto a working trailer and restacking pallets that shifted.
How do I see my inventory?
You get a seat into our inventory management system for a live virtual view of your stock, no cameras or remote look-ins involved. If you'd rather see it in person, you're welcome to visit the warehouse with advance notice, and we back the numbers with a risk-based cycle-count program.
How much does 3PL cost?
We don't publish rates because a fair price depends on your volume, your product, and how long you're committing. Higher volume and a longer term bring the per-pallet rate down, and fast-turning inventory prices more favorably than static storage, so the best move is to give us your real numbers for an honest quote.
